Low Testosterone Symptoms In Men

What is a testosterone?

Testosterone is a hormone naturally produced by the human body. Although both present in both man and woman, it is more popularly known as a “male hormone.”

Testosterone is responsible in making a man a man.

It helps build a man’s muscle, deepen his voice, and maintain his interest in sex.

What is a normal testosterone level?

Typically, a man’s testosterone level will decrease as he ages. This usually happens when he reaches the age of 30. By the time he reaches 70, his testosterone level will only be 10% of what he had 50 years ago.

On the other hand, there are several factors that could affect a man’s testosterone level even at a young age. These would include family history, lifestyle, and environmental factors.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Association, the normal range of testosterone level is between 300 to 1,000 ng/dL. If a man falls below this range, then he is diagnosed with a low testosterone level (Low T).

What are the symptoms of low testosterone level?

Technically, we cannot say that a man has a low testosterone level unless he has himself tested and diagnosed. On the other hand, there are several warning signs that may point a man that he might have a Low T.

Here are some symptoms for low testosterone level:

1. Decrease Interest In Sex

Testosterone is called the “male love hormone” for a reason and this is because it basically fuels a man’s sex drive. A man who has a low level of testosterone will have a more drastic drop in his urge to have sex.

Technically speaking, men vary on how frequent they like to have sex. But according to Dr. Morgentaler, an associate clinical professor of medicine in Harvard Medical School, the desire is completely absent for a man with low T.

2. A Hard Time Getting An Erection

Testosterone is responsible in stimulating receptors in the brain to produce nitric oxide, the molecule responsible in triggering male erection. If a man has low levels of this hormone, it’s either erections are impossible, or the penis is not firm enough for intercourse.

3. Low Semen Volume

Semen is aids the motility of the sperm. The amount of semen a man produces is proportional to his testosterone level.

A man with a healthy testosterone level will normally produce 1.5 to 5 cc of fluid. However, a man with low T will notice a sharp decline of semen released during ejaculation.

4. Numbness In The Genital

Normally, once a man is touched down there, the feeling elicits an electrical sensation that sparks the desire to have sex. This is what makes sex so pleasurable.

However, according to Dr. Morgentaler, touching the area just feels so wrong for men with Low T.

5. Feeling Fatigue Lack Of Energy

A man most probably have low testosterone level is he’s always feeling tired even if he’s getting enough sleep. Likewise, guys with Low T often times lose their drive and initiative.

6. Weight Gain

Testosterone plays an important role in building and strengthening a man’s muscle. Hence, men who have lower than average testosterone level are more likely to experience a big decrease in muscle mass.

In addition, researchers suggest that testosterone also influence how the body stores fats. Therefore, it is more likely for men with Low T to increase body fat.

7. Mood Swings

We know that women who’re in their menopausal years are moody because of their estrogen levels dropping.

This scenario is very similar to men with low levels of testosterone.

Researches show that testosterone influences a lot of physical processes in a man’s body, which includes his moods and mental capacity. Hence, men with Low T are more likely to undergo lack of focus, irritability, and even depression.
